Using their heads

Hundreds of students from Biddeford Intermediate School, Biddeford Middle School and Biddeford High School made their way through the Brain Fair hosted by the University of New England on April 8. Fifth-, seventh- and 10th-grade students were brought to various interactive, hand-on learning activities hosted by UNE Neuroscience students that focused on the brain and nervous system and how best to protect them from injury. Right, Isabella Hutchins dissects a cow eyeball. Below, fifth-graders Elissa Potter and Pichrithylen Thor take part in a Mindflex activity. Mindflex is a toy by Mattel that uses brain waves to steer a ball through and obstacle course. The brain waves are captured with the EEG headset, which allows users to speed up or slow dowan a fan, lifting or lowering the ball.
