TA to showcase boats before April 20 ArtWalk

See a display of model boats that were designed and built by Thornton Academy students who participated in Compass Project’s pilot Model Boat Design/Build Program. There will be a presentation of the boats at the Thornton Academy High School library 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20. Later that same day the model boats will be on display at Engine (128 Main. St, Biddeford) from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the last Friday, Biddeford + Saco ArtWalk. Both events are free and open to the public.

Last semester, Advanced Introduction to Engineering students worked with Compass Project instructor and small boat designer, Clint Chase, on the program. Students learned basic boat design theory, sketched preliminary ideas on paper, and did the bulk of the design work on a computer-aided design program, Rhinoceros. Students worked in pairs to design their own boats within given parameters, and students built actual scale models of their own design.
