Arthur Bald

On Jan. 13, 2016, our father, Arthur Bald, age 97, passed away calmly at home.

Born March 30, 1918, to Lena Caron and Alfred Bald in Biddeford, he was the valedictorian of Biddeford High School. He was also captain of the football team.

In 1938, he enlisted in the Navy and was chief petty officer aboard the USS Ellet during Word War II. He later enjoyed a 27-year career at General Electric.

Arthur met the love of his life, Laurette Tetreau, at The Pier in Old Orchard Beach. While on leave for two weeks, Arthur proposed to Laurette, married one week later and they drove away on their honeymoon with borrowed tires, car and donated gas rations.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. At age 80, he converted his above-ground pool into a gazebo. On his 90th birthday, he had an art exhibit at Somersworth Library, displaying more than 100 of his paintings.

Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Laurette, and his daughter, Charlyne Allard.

Surviving are his son, Reynald Bald and his wife, Marcia, Aurelie Bald, Adrienne Keicher and husband, Bill, his son-in-law Larry and his wife, Barbara, Dr. Frank Bald and his wife, Sandy, and Doreen and her husband, Bill, 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Arthur is the second of 10 children. Surviving are his sisters, Laurette Dumas of Kennebunk and Annette Des Roberts and her husband, Raymond, of Lyman, and sister-in-law Jeanette Bald of Biddeford.

Funeral services were in January.
