Museum to celebrate anniversary

Established in 1866 as the York Institute, the Saco Museum is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2016. In the years since its founding, the museum has acquired a diverse collection of objects. Many of the artifacts came to the museum with fascinating accounts of the people who owned or made them. Join them this summer as they explore the intriguing stories – sometimes true and sometimes not – behind noteworthy objects in the museum’s collection. Along the way, they will also delve into a number of popular myths and misconceptions about life in early New England. From portraits by noted artist John Brewster Jr., to crafted furniture (both large and small), to a 1950s bass drum from Vacationland Drum and Bugle Corps, there will be something of interest for all to see.
