U.S. senator to speak at graduation

Maine’s first Independent United States senator, Angus King, is scheduled to speak at Thornton Academy’s class of 2016 graduation ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5 in Hill Stadium. Thornton Academy will graduate more than 390 students who are from southern Maine and from 15 other countries.

“We are honored to welcome United States Sen. Angus King back to Thornton Academy. Senator King has a distinguished record of public service and of advocacy for education, particularly around issues of workforce development, innovative curriculum, and college affordability, all concerns that align with Thornton Academy’s values and initiatives,” said Headmaster Rene Menard.

“Thornton Academy’s commitment to excellence and innovation has helped solidify its place as one of Maine’s many great academic institutions,” King said. “I look forward to joining with the entire Thornton Academy community to congratulate this year’s graduating class and recognize them for all their hard work.”
