State official helped with process

To the editor:

I would like to personally thank state Rep. Martin Grohman of Biddeford for his effort in ensuring Maine college graduates are able to secure jobs sooner. My daughter completed six years of college and graduated from Husson University as a physical therapist. She then passed the two national exams, applied for her state license and landed a job in her field to help pay her $1,100 per month student loan. As a parent, I was relieved all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place. Unfortunately, we then learned her soon-to-be employer would not give her a start date because her state of Maine license was still reported as “pending” due to a backlog in processing applications. We were concerned this would jeopardize her job opportunity, and she certainly could not afford to take that chance.

When we were unable to resolve the issue through direct contact with the state department, I reached out to Rep. Grohman to see if he could offer any assistance. On behalf of all graduates who are dependent on their state license being issued to secure employment, he immediately took action and my daughter’s license was active. This is a perfect example of how important it is to have the right advocates for our youth in office. Rep. Grohman understands the value of education and ensuring there are no barriers at the state level to prevent people from working. My daughter is now gainfully employed, loves her job and able to pay her student loans (a parent’s dream). Thank you Rep. Grohman.
