Carl B. Friedman

Carl B. Friedman of Saco passed away on July 25, 2016, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 16, 1947, at Trull Hospital in Biddeford to Harry and Cecil Waters Friedman. Carl attended Thornton Academy and graduated in 1965. He played football for The Thornton Academy Trojans and was inducted into the TA Hall of Fame. He was very proud to be part of the Thornton Academy Alumni.

In 1966 he joined the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam. He was Airman 1st Class, Air Police, 633rd Security Squadron.

He received the Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon and the Bronze Star Medal along with Meritorious Service Medal for his service as a security policeman. After the service, Carl worked for the Animal Forest Park in York for his future father-in-law, where he met his wife Susan. Carl and Susan married in 1971.

He later worked at Wood Structures in Biddeford, Mariner Realty in Saco and for 17 years he worked for Orkin Pest Control.

Carl loved dogs, New England Patriots, History Channel, wrestling and playing Xbox. He was proud of his 1967 Ford Galaxie convertible and loved attending car shows with his friends. He also loved camping with family and friends. He and Susan enjoyed spending the last two winters in Venice Florida. He was a very proud “Bumpa” to his five grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and forever hold a special place in our hearts.

He was predeceased by his father in 1996.

He is survived by his mother, his sister Anna Friedman Willey and her husband Tom, his brother Butch Friedman and his wife Elaine, his wife Susan of 44 years, his daughter Meredith Friedman Speed and her husband Darrel and their four children Brady, Sophie, Logan and Ellie of Arundel, his daughter Tracy Friedman Cameron, her fiancé Corey Richardson and her daughter Elizabeth of Hollis and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
