Author to speak about stone walls

Author and master stone builder Kevin Gardner will be at McArthur Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 to talk about the history of New England’s stone walls.

For more than 30 years, Gardner has been a stone craftsman in a family business that specializes in traditional stonework. In 2001, Gardner published “The Granite Kiss,” which quickly became a definitive work on stone walls. He also became a public speaker, presenting at dozens of historical societies, libraries and historical venues such as Old Sturbridge Village and the Castle in the Clouds.

Learn why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls and how the styles evolved and changed over time. Gardner often varies his talks to suit the audience covering topics such as techniques for stone wall building, design and variations. During the talk he often constructs a table-sized stone wall to illustrate the art of stone wall construction.

Events at McArthur Public Library are free and open to the public.
