Kids are having fun, but hobby is dangerous

To the editor:

I'm sure I'm not the only reader who immediately thought of the 700-year-old legendary William Tell Apple shot when I saw your front page of the Aug. 18 edition.

While we love to see these local kids having fun and getting recognition in social media, in today's highly charged public safety environment, pointing anything that even appears to be a weapon at another human being can be harmful to one's health in more than one way.

An important, final note. Although these shooting toys are, well, toys, it’s important that your children learn to use them responsibly. That means absolutely no aiming or firing at pets or at anything above the knees on a human. No exceptions, no warnings, no second chances and no excuses.
