SACO – The city council approved a contract zone agreement for Park North Development, LLC, which will allow Park North to develop non-mixed multi-family dwellings on one of its parcels that abuts Route 1 in the Cascade area. The approval, at the Oct. 17 council meeting, followed a motion to reconsider the council’s initial Oct. 3 rejection of the contract zone agreement, about which the Courier reported in detail in its Oct. 6 issue.

The housing units will not be permitted within 600 feet of Route 1, and mixed-use buildings are no longer permitted on that parcel. As part of the update to the agreement, Park North agreed to certain dates for the development of a planned trail system, to dates for payments of fees to the city, and to responsibility for construction of a sidewalk.

In other news, at the same meeting the council approved the first reading of a different contract zone agreement for Hardypond Development Company, LLC’s redevelopment of the Notre Dame de Lourdes church on Cutts Avenue. As the Courier reported in its Oct. 13 issue, the contract would relieve the development of part of its off-street parking requirements among other relief provisions.
