Rudolph Oberzan

Rudolph “Rudy” James Oberzan II, 74, formerly of Saco, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living in Lawrence, Kansas.

Rudy was born March 4, 1942, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Rudolph James and Agnes Marie (O’Malley) Oberzan.

He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960 where he participated in high school sports. He received his undergraduate degree in political science from Stanford University and his MBA from the University of Kansas.

While at Stanford he boxed and was the captain of the Stanford Boxing Team. He also boxed in 1966-67 for the Golden Gloves in Kansas City.

He lived for many years in Saco and then Epping, New Hampshire, before recently returning to Lawrence.

He enjoyed outdoor sports: snow skiing, cross country skiing, hiking, and sailing, and he had a keen interest in Civil War history.

He was a sales manager for a manufactured home company.

Survivors include his two sons, Rudolph James Oberzan III, Dayton; Zachary Aaron Oberzan, Saco; daughter, Jennie Eve Aranovitch and her husband Jacques Blais, Biddeford; two grandchildren, Josiah and Eva Aranovitch; sister, Anne Look, Glendale, Arizona; and brothers, Joe M. Oberzan, Thomas P. Oberzan, and John V. Oberzan, all of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, David M. Oberzan.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, Kansas, and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
