Family affair



Allen Carlson, an international relations expert from Cornell University, delivered a lecture Nov. 21 titled, “Contemporary China: Dragon or Panda?” in Garland Auditorium on Thornton Academy’s campus. The event was sponsored by Thornton Academy and York County Senior College. Carlson is the brother of Thornton Academy history teacher Andrew Carlson and the son of YCSC members Russell and Jane Carlson. His talk focused on several areas including China’s economy, military, politics and art. Thornton Academy’s mission is to “prepare students for a changing world” welcomes students from 35 countries around the globe, including China. Seven foreign language courses are offered to students, including four levels of Honors Chinese, as well as AP Chinese, and an after-school Chinese Club provides fun opportunities to practice conversational Chinese and learn about Chinese culture.
