Biddeford Intermediate teacher recognized

Biddeford Intermediate School teacher Lori Flynn was announced as a Golden Apple Award recipient. The Golden Apple Awards, hosted by 99.9 The Wolf, was created to recognize individuals dedicated to the intellectual and emotional growth of Maine’s children and young adults. Flynn was nominated by a parent, France Pelletier, and received a floral arrangement, dinner for two, and a limo ride to and from school. She will also be recognized at a special banquet in August in which all recipients will be honored.

Pelletier wrote in her nomination regarding Flynn: “Our daughter Katelyn was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Flynn as her second grade teacher. Katelyn really struggled with reading through kindergarten, first grade and the summer leading up to the start of second grade. Shortly after beginning second grade she looked Mrs. Flynn in the eye and told her, ‘But Mrs. Flynn, I can’t read.’ And Mrs. Flynn said to her ‘It’s OK Katelyn, you will learn.’ And learn she did. Katelyn just started middle school this year and since second grade, Mrs. Flynn has been her favorite teacher. Each year since, Katelyn would go out of her way to make it a point to see Mrs. Flynn. Whether it be visiting her classroom, taking a different route in the hallways to walk past her door in hopes of catching a glimpse of her, passing her in the hallway, or to give her a hug. If ever there was a teacher to leave a lasting impression on a child’s heart, it’s Mrs. Flynn. She cares beyond measure. Thank you so much for your consideration of this great educator and person for the Golden Apple Award.”

“This is a tremendous honor for Mrs. Flynn,” said Biddeford Intermediate School Principal Deb Kenney. “We are very proud of our educators but it is especially touching when a parent goes out of their way to recognize a teacher who clearly has had a significant impact on their child. This is ultimately every teacher’s hope as they educate their students.”
