Restaurant Week held in Biddeford, Saco

The culinary curious are invited to check out Biddeford and Saco’s downtown restaurant and bar scene during Biddeford+Saco Restaurant Week, March 12-18. Special events throughout the week will highlight more than two dozen establishments, while all locals and visitors are invited to submit an entry form at participating restaurants for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the downtown restaurant of their choice. There will be one $100 prize in each downtown.

Heart of Biddeford and the Biddeford, Saco Chamber of Commerce and Industry have teamed up to expand beyond downtown Biddeford into neighboring Saco. Heart of Biddeford’s executive director, Delilah Poupore said, “I’m thrilled with the growth in special events during the week as well as the inclusion of Saco.”

Chamber director Craig Pendleton added, “There’s so much we can do when these two cities work together. There should be something for everyone to enjoy during Biddeford + Saco Restaurant Week.”

The week commences with the Community Soup-er, 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at the Pepperell Center, 40 Main St. The Community Souper features a dozen local restaurants that have donated a selection of soups, and local fifth-grade students who have donated handmade ceramic bowls. The cost of the ticket, available only at the door for $10, includes two servings of soup as well as Reilly’s bread and Biscuits & Company biscuits. Guests are encouraged to enjoy their soup in the bowls made by the students for an additional $5 donation.

“Custom Deluxe & The Farm vs. Maple Syrup” will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at Custom Deluxe. Chef Thomas Malz (winner of DownEast Magazine’s 2016 Best New Chef award) will partner with farmer/chef Michael Whitmore from The Farm. Diners will meet guest Gene Barber from Devenish Wines, and top the evening off with something special from Sweetcream Dairy. Also that night, Buffleheads, in Biddeford Pool, will offer two dinners for $24.

Biddeford’s first FYOOD (iron chef-style cooking competition) will take place Wednesday, March 15. Tickets sold out online for audience members. Four teams of chefs will compete in front of judges and an audience inside Biscuits & Company for a trophy, a basket of Maine-grown goods, and serious bragging rights. On Thursday, March 16, Local Libations Night will provide a chance to meet brewers, a distiller, sommelier and a martini maker from Dirigo Brewing Co., Banded Horn Brewing Co., Uncorked Win Bar, Cowbell Burger Bar, Round Turn Distilling and EDGE Bar. Tours will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. at Saco Island’s Run of the Mill, and more events will take place in Saco at Up & Up and Kerrymen Pub. No tickets necessary.

Everybody’s Irish on Friday, March 17 when Vince Keeley (who’s the real deal at the WonderBar) leads the raising of the Irish flag in City Square in Biddeford at 9 a.m. Irish Breakfast, traditional Irish menus and Guinness are served at WonderBar, Mulligans and Kerrymen Pub. Both Wonderbar and Kerrymen pub will host bands that night.

Dirigo Brewing Co. will host a Booty Bomb at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18. Booty Bomb is an athletic social event company doing pop-up boot camps throughout southern Maine and they’ve designed a fun event to bring together exercise, community and social activities. All fitness levels welcome. Tickets are available on Eventbrite: “Booty Bomb at Dirigo Brewing Company.”
