Sign up for senior tax relief

The city of Saco is recruiting volunteers for the Senior Citizen Tax Workoff Program. Individuals must be 60 years old prior to April 1, must own their own home and reside at that property. Income limits for the program are $38,300 for one person households and $43,800 for two person households. The program will run from May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018. Upon completion of 100 hours, participants will receive a credit of $750 toward their Saco property taxes.

Many opportunities are available for seniors who want to earn credit for their taxes. Openings available for volunteers are: fire department, public works, tax collector’s office, school department, various clerical positions within city hall, the new Age Friendly Saco Program and Saco Train Station. There is a great need for couples to serve at the train station. There may be additional positions available soon. Training will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

The city is also recruiting volunteers who do not qualify for the Tax Workoff Program but would like to volunteer.

Applications can be obtained at Saco City Hall or by calling the tax assessor’s office at 282-1611. Deadline for applications is Friday, March 24.
