Find out how Saco plans to be ‘age friendly’
On Jan. 19, 2016, one of the annual goals adopted by the Saco City Council was: “To actively seek an AARP grant that would assist in the development of a plan to make Saco an Age-Friendly Community.” Through a collaborative effort between community volunteers, Jean Saunders and Donald Sharland, and myself, Saco was successfully awarded an AARP grant to begin the process of making Saco an Age-Friendly Community. The Age Friendly Saco Steering Committee was created to facilitate this process.
At the Age Friendly Saco Steering Committee’s first meeting in June, we shared a vision of what an age friendly community could look like and distributed a survey to help us understand community needs and priorities. We are pleased to report that the survey was distributed to more than 1,000 households and that we received almost 400 responses. The data has been compiled and we would like to share the results with you.
A public forum will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20 in Garland Auditorium at Thornton Academy (refreshments will be served) to present the findings and to ask for your help in creating a plan that will enable us to meet our goal. We hope that each of you will take a moment to share your time and talent in helping us improve the lives of our friends and neighbors
Thank you for caring and we hope to see you on April 20.
