“Throughout her high school career, Annabel has maintained consistently strong academic performance, and has also shown exceptional personal and social growth. She has enrolled in the most rigorous courses available, always striving to learn more and do more. Annabel works hard for her academic achievements and does not shy away from challenges. She comes to school each day excited and eager to learn,” said guidance counselor Sarah Tibbetts.

Winterberg will attend Bowdoin College to study history.

“As a student, both creatively and academically, Annabel is unmatched…in the more formal pieces she has written for me, her ability to draw connections between themes and incorporate different sources into a finished product is beyond measure. And she does all of this for me in her second language and with a unique, sophisticated voice,” said German teacher Frau AdriAnne Curtis.

Winterberg credits Frau Curtis as being “definitely the best teacher I’ve ever had” and she is also grateful for the support of Brandon Parise and Ben Grasso for letting her explore her passion for history and providing assistance in preparing for debate meets.

“My favorite class at TA has probably been AP U.S History. It was this really intense look into American history and by the end of the year I felt like an expert about it. I have also enjoyed all the German classes. You really get immersed in the language and get to do some very fun activities,” Winterberg said. “The most challenging courses I have taken have probably been AP U.S. History and AP Literature and a Composition. Both require a lot of work and demand that you think critically about the topics you are studying.”

Winterberg has served in a leadership role for several after-school activities as Captain of the Debate Team, Head Delegate for the Model United Nations Club, and the Corresponding Secretary for National Honor Society. She is also a member of W.A.G.E.R. (Women and Gender Equal Rights Club), German Club, and she travelled abroad through the German Exchange Program her sophomore year. She has volunteered for the past four years with the activities department at Evergreen Nursing Home.

A resident of Saco, Annabel is the daughter of Frederick Winterberg and stepdaughter of Shanna Thompson.
