Giving back

The board of directors of the John C. Duranceau Scholarship Fund presented a $10,000 check May 5 for a new sound system to be installed in Biddeford High School’s Tiger Gym. “We are honored to give back to our alma mater in John’s memory. We were impressed with the tour and know he would’ve been proud of the renovated high school. We are pleased that a plaque with his photo will be visible as people enter the gym,” said Lynn Duranceau-Tilley. John C. Duranceau, a 1980 graduate, was a beloved member of the Biddeford-Saco community when he passed away unexpectedly in 2010. His family began the John Duranceau Memorial Golf Tournament, a game he loved, to provide college scholarships to a Biddeford High School and Thornton Academy senior. Since its inception, they have given $7,000 in scholarship funds.
