Gymnastics teams close successful season

(Courtesy photo) The end of meet season has come for team programs at Dudziaks gymnastics in Biddeford.

Level 6 through 10 students competed at a state meet in Old Town on March 18; level 2 through 5 participants and Xcels competed in Waterville April 1-2. Both meets went well and showed the hard work of all gymnasts. Dudziaks had a great individual and team showing in the state. As far as state champions, it had level 10 Courtney Christoforo (Saco), Level 9 Mackenzie MacLeod (Kennebunk), Level 8 Danah MacLeod (Kennebunk), Level 6 Faith Tillotson (Saco), Level 5 Audrey Payeur (Acton) and Brooke Wardrop (Scarborough), Level 4 Harlow O’Leary (Saco), Xcel platinum Megan Gregoire (Biddeford) and Diane Ingalls (Windham), and Xcel silver Kennedy Cyr (Arundel). The teams placed well at the Maine state championship with Level 2 and Xcel silver receiving third place, Level 3, 4, 8 and Xcel gold received second place, Level 5 and Xcel platinum received first place.

(Courtesy photo) On March 26, 2016 the boys had a state meet in Rockport. Giovanni Montecalvo (Saco) was the Level 5 state champion on still rings and Donavin Withem (Biddeford) was the Level 5 runner up on still rings. Levels 7 thru 10 have the ability to qualify to regionals. The top seven gymnasts, regardless of age group, will qualify as the Super Seven State Team and an additional 112 qualifiers All Stars will be selected on a percentage of a percentage formula. Maine gets two additional athletes for the Level 7 all star team and three for the level eight team. Dudziaks had Courtney Christoforo (Saco) and Mackenzie MacLeod (Kennebunk) compete at level 9,10 regionals in Massachusetts on April 7-8. Christoforo posted some season high scores on vault and floor. She was six on uneven bars out of 18 girls. Mackenzie MacLeod was fourth out of 14 girls on uneven bars and was the regional champion on floor. Level 7,8 regionals were held April 22-23 in Massachusetts. Representing Maine from Dudziaks was Danah MacLeod (Kennebunk), Stacy Taylor (Sanford), Grace Elwell (Buxton) and Olivia Mann (Gorham). MacLeod was the regional vault champion and also place fifth on floor and all around out of 13. Xcel regionals is May 20-21 and is held in Massachusetts. Representing Maine from Dudziaks will be Megan Gregoire (Biddeford), Diane Ingalls (Windham), Katelyn Smith (Windham), Isabella Kalinyak (Saco), Lexie Hale (Biddeford), Penelope White (Limerick) and Kennedy Cyr (Arundel).

The coaches at Dudziaks are so proud of their three graduating seniors. Michelle Deshaies (Biddeford), Courtney Christoforo (Saco), and Molly Cianchette (Saco) have put in 20 hours a week and more than 10 years of training. Deshaies will attend the University of Southern Maine to major in accounting. Christoforo plans to major in pre med at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York and will try out for the Division III gymnastics team. Cianchette will attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and will compete for the Division III gymnastics team.
