Annual Bacon Street Festival is Aug. 6

The 10th annual Bacon Street Neighborhood Festival will be held noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6. The festival is free and will be held at 39 Sullivan St., in the St. Andre senior housing parking lot in the Bacon Street neighborhood.

The event is part of National Night Out by the National Association of Town Watch and held with support from the city of Biddeford, TARGET, Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution, Heart of Biddeford, the Biddeford & Saco Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Community Partners for Protecting Children and the Biddeford Housing Authority.

National Night Out provides an opportunity for cities and towns across the United States to implement activities during this time that promote safe neighborhoods, crime, drug and violence prevention, and police/community partnerships.

The event is highlighting the efforts made over the past several years to make the neighborhood family friendly and a good place to live. This year’s festival will include music, a petting zoo sponsored by Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution, games, food, a beach themed play area, a visit by the Furries, an interactive puppet show, radio controlled car races, bounce house and pedal car races. No preregistration required. There are prizes and treats for all children. The Ketch Fish Band and BillyBilly will perform throughout the afternoon. The ArtVan Program that provides a summer art program for children will supply recyclable decorations for the festival. The city’s police, fire, recreation and public works departments will also participate.

“This is an annual grassroots neighborhood event,” said Linda Waters, community development coordinator for the city. “The city is pleased with everyone’s willingness to participate, including our sponsors, to host the festival. The participation from the neighborhood, organizations and businesses is incredible. We are looking forward to having a great time again this year.”
