Celebrating Over 90 Years Serving the Biddeford-Saco Community!!

The Biddeford+Saco Chamber of Commerce+Industry continues its’ important mission of supporting and promoting business members as well as, the communities of Biddeford, Saco and Waterboro. Whether providing guidance to tourists about retail, restaurant and recreational businesses in the area, or helping a new business navigate the legal and logistical requirements of opening, the Chamber is committed to making the greater Biddeford+Saco region a destination point for residents and tourists alike. The Chamber’s Welcome Center has a variety of materials on local business, maps, guides and public transportations schedules.

2017 marks the 90th anniversary of the Chamber’s incorporation. In the first eight months of this year the Chamber launched a new 90th logo and has developed a plan for a celebration that will be held on October 14th from 5:30 till 9PM at Thornton Academy. The event will have Geoffrey Howe, President of Howe and Howe Manufacturing in Waterboro. There will be a silent auction, great food, music and business awards. 90 years is quite a monumental history, with good times and tough times for the region’s businesses but through all times, the Chamber has stood firm and done all it can to always send a positive message that highlights the many assets we have in the region.

2017 also saw the launch of a new innovative and interactive website. The home page opens to a beautiful sunrise over Saco Bay exclaiming “A New Day is Dawning in the Biddeford+Saco Region.”

“The Chamber is continuously refining its purpose and work plan,” states Craig Pendleton, executive director of the Chamber. “The new website clearly shows visitors that our three main areas of work are workforce development, economic development, and tourism.” “ Each one of these areas of work are important to our members and the region. This area once saw itself as the two communities you drove through to get to Old Orchard Beach. We are working extremely hard to change that perception. We have tourism and lots of it, it’s just different. We don’t have high rise resort hotels lining our beaches. What we have is a community with a diversity of things to do, access to a major river, a beautiful ocean and all the scenery associated with it, we have shopping, great food and a state park. With just a short drive, you can enjoy a more rural setting in Waterboro with awesome lakes, streams, hiking, canoeing and fishing and much more. We believe that once people discover us, they will be very happy they made the choice to visit.”

There are many new businesses in the Biddeford+Saco Region. The Chamber has initiated a Community Awareness Campaign that is designed to let citizens know more about what our businesses sell, the service they provide and products that are built here. For too long we have not told our story. We have creative companies that build products such as robotics, highly sophisticated weaponry for our military, and food products. We have over a million square feet of Mill District that is now the home of hundreds of businesses and modern, affordable living space. On September 13th, the Chamber will host its 13th annual Community Awareness Expo. Dozens of businesses will display their wares and services to each other and to the public. The event is open and free to the public from 3 till 7 PM at XL Sports World in Saco.
