TA brings back original production

When Thornton Academy first opened the “new” art wing in 1996, the faculty, administration, and students wanted to produce a play worthy of their new space, they chose George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “You Can’t Take It With You.” David Hanright, then a young art teacher with only a few years of teaching experience, was one of the teachers who worked with students to produce the play.

This year, 21 years later, student actors from Thornton will once again grace the Garland Auditorium stage and recite the words written in 1937. The show will run from Nov. 9 through Nov. 11 and David Hanright, now a co-chairman of the Arts Department and a faculty member with decades of experience producing shows, will direct the play. All shows begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $5.

This year, in honor of the show being the very first performed on Thornton’s beloved stage, the Arts Department is inviting all TA Player alumni to come to the show. They will be given a complimentary ticket to the performance.
