Thornton Academy student named DAR ‘Good Citizen’

Nolan Eisenhaur Nolan Eisenhaur Senior Nolan Eisenhaur of Saco was named Thornton Academy’s Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen.

To be named a DAR Good Citizen, a student must “demonstrate the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation) to an outstanding degree.” Faculty members nominated three senior students for the award and the senior class then voted to determine the winner.

The son of Mark and Colleen Eisenhaur, Nolan is student body treasurer. Additionally, he is captain of the swim team and is a member of Dance Company, National Honor Society and Spanish Club. He has also made many friends with international students at Thornton Academy and plans to visit Europe this summer to stay with classmates.

AP Spanish teacher Marie Fritzsche praises Nolan’s compassion and enthusiasm when interacting with his peers.

“He embraces opportunities to better understand the world around him, including talking to a classmate about Hungarian customs and ensuring that he is correctly pronouncing a name in Polish. These seemingly minor interactions illustrate his interest in the people and cultures of the world and are ways in which he cultivates empathy.”

Nolan plans to study international business in college next year as well as continuing his studies in dance and Spanish.
