Frigid fundraiser

Rhianna Smith, a Team Swick "Frozen Flamingo" of Old Orchard Beach, emerges from the water, drenched in cold Atlantic water and in pursuit of dryness and warmth. The Lobster Dip, held Saturday, Jan. 20, is typically held on New Years Day, but with the stubbornness of the recent cold snap and temperatures plunging into single digits that day, the dip was postponed - the first time in 30 years, according to the Lobster Dip Facebook page. According to organizers, 277 dippers showed up and raised more than $116,000. The air temperature was 36 degrees during the dip and water temperature was 39 degrees. See more photos on pages 2 and 3.
