Old Orchard scholarship drive in full swing

To the editor:

The Old Orchard Alumni Association kicked off its 2018 fundraising efforts March 9 with the annual Alumni Basketball Classic. After losing the past two years to the high school boys and girls, the alumni team pulled it out with a victory.

Saturday March 24 was the Savor the Flavor Trolley Dinner in conjunction with OOB365. It appears this may become an annual event and will be sold out this week as we raise money for scholarships.

Up next for the alumni is the Scholarship Spring Dance. Duffy’s Tavern and Grill will host us with a dance that’s open to the public. Tickets are $10 per person and we will reserve tables of eight. Groups are encouraged. We have collected hundreds of dollars in door prizes, will have a 50/50 raffle and dance to the hits of all years from the 1950s to present day music. This fun night 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 7. Tickets are moving quickly and are on sale at MacDonald’s Garage in OOB, Prime Honda in Saco and Brady’s Screen print in Biddeford. For more information, call 423-2975. Help us raise money for tomorrow’s future leaders and assisting them with scholarships to help with their education.

We also welcome Sharri MacDonald, class of 1990, long time Old Orchard Beach promoter, school board member, town councilor and state representative into the Old Orchard Alumni Hall of Fame. Congratulations Sharri as 2017’s sole recipient. It is so well deserved as Sharri continues to promote Old Orchard Beach through her family business and OOB365. We are currently accepting nominees for the 2018 award to be given at The All-School Reunion Weekend that kicks off Friday, Sept. 14. Details can be found on oobeachalumni.com.

The alumni is still collecting bottles and cans with money going to the scholarship fund. Call Janet Doherty at 934-2228 for your Clynk Bags. I look forward to a great 2018 fundraising season and continued support from the local businesses and fellow members of the group.

Mark Andrews, president OOB Alumni
