Former Patriot’s player to speak about addiction

The Biddeford Saco Rotary Club’s Red Ribbon Committee has focused its efforts on preventing young people from slipping into the grip of drug use and addiction. Working in conjunction with school educators from Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Saco and Thornton Academy, the Red Ribbon Committee will host a free community presentation with Former NFL Patriot Chris Sullivan and his wife, Kathi, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Biddeford High School’s Little Theater.

Sullivan, a former defensive lineman for Boston College and the New England Patriots, struggled with injuries, anxiety and depression, which led to alcohol and drug abuse. He totaled four cars, was arrested for five OUIs and checked into 15 rehabilitation centers in a six-year period.

Prior to meeting his wife Kathi, she lost her 17-yearold daughter Taylor as a result of a night of underage drinking. Together, they share their personal journey through recovery, grief and overcoming negative emotions thanks to positive support systems.

The Sullivans will be joined by the Center for Grieving Children, Community Bicycle Center and the Red Ribbon Committee of the Biddeford Saco Rotary Club. During Red Ribbon Week, April 23-27, schools also plan other activities for students.
