Saco Bay Artists to meet May 14

Saco Bay Artists will hold its monthly meeting at noon Monday, May 14 in Room 203 on the second floor at Saco Parks and Recreation, 75 Franklin St., Saco, featuring Evelyn Moreshead demonstrating monotype.

Moreshead studied art at the University of Southern Maine and has taken some courses at the Ringling School of Art and workshops with artists in the Rockport, Massachusetts area when she lived. She is studying with local artist Robert Dohar.

She will demonstrate one-time printing with waterbased printing inks. Participants are invited to participate in the process of drawing on a plate and pulling off the paper to create textural effects that are reversed and provide an element of surprise.

“What I enjoy about making a monotype is the process of making the plate, applying the inks, and pulling the print,” she said. “Since the print is a mirror image of the plate, there is always an element of surprise when I see the finished print.”

The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Kathy Angel Lee at 937-2125 or Kathyangellee@gmail.com.
