Top three issues:

Address local traffic gridlock and infrastructure, maintenance and improvements; I will leverage my relationships within State Government to assure our local needs have the focus and attention we need. We need a strong clear voice in OOB so that we can provide solutions to strengthen our infrastructure not only for our friends visiting, but for our year round residents.

Increase State Funding for Schools; I will work with the Department of Education to tackle the state funding formula to ensure that OOB gets our fair share of essential programs and services. I will introduce and support legislative initiatives, which assures adequate student to teacher ratios, which will positively impact teachers’ salaries, and will ultimately be a benefit to our students. A strong and thriving school district will attract more young families into our community.

Create sustainable year-round employment opportunities in OOB; I will work with colleagues at the state level to develop innovative strategies that will attract businesses to locate in OOB. While tourism is strong, our community can benefit by having more year round businesses which will help to sustain positive economic growth for our community.

Why are you seeking elected office?

I am running for the Maine State Legislature to represent Old Orchard Beach, because I love Maine and I love Old Orchard Beach. I want to use my experience, skills and expertise to be an effective voice in Augusta for OUR community.

Throughout my career, I have always advocated for those who don’t always have their voices heard. Growing up, like many other hard working families, we fell upon hard times and as a child, we received public assistance. I knew I couldn’t change my situation as a child, but I could, as an adult, be in a position to affect change on behalf of others. As a social worker, I’ve done just that. I understand that we need to engage together as a community to affect change.

In addition to my top issues for our community, I will also work hard to explore solutions to the opioid epidemic impacting so many in our state. Additionally, I will support initiatives that include affordable and accessible health care for all, and will assure that our seniors have the supports necessary to maintain their homes in our community and age in place.

As a small business owner in town, I see so many opportunities for our community. I will continue to be an advocate for our children and for our seniors, as well as for those who may not otherwise have their voices heard. I want to shine our shoes and put our best foot forward for OOB.

Occupation: Retired firefighter
Family: Tracy, Wife (35 years), 2 sons, Brian and Tyler
Education completed: 2.5 years of college
Organizations and activities: Currently serving
my third term as a Town Councilor for the Town of Old
Orchard Beach; Member of IIABO (basketball official for
29 years); Masonic Lodge of Old Orchard Beach; Member
of Biddeford Saco Country Club; retired Captain for the
Old Orchard Beach Fire Department Call Force (36 years
as a member)

Top three issues:

Health care for the elderly. We need to be sure our elderly population is well cared for and health care is affordable. Nobody should have to choose between health care or food.

Opioid crisis. I would like to make enforcement a top priority to prevent these drug classifications from entering our state.

Education funding. We need to assure a quality education for our children. In order to do so, the State needs to fund education at the level that was approved by the people several years ago.

Why are you seeking elected office?

I have spent most of my life in Old Orchard Beach. I am currently serving my third term as a Town Councilor, because I am passionate about this Town and the people who live here. I was a reserve police officer for several summers, and served 36 years on the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department Call Force, retiring as a Captain. I am currently a volunteer member of the Old Orchard Beach Fire/Police Unit. I am running for the elected position of State Representative for District 13 so I can continue to make a difference and to make sure that Old Orchard Beach is well represented in Augusta.
