Ecology School given donation

The Ecology School received a $15,000 donation from the Sam L. Cohen Foundation supporting the expansion of environmental education programs for Biddeford and Saco school systems to the school’s new location at River Bend Farm in Saco.

The 105-acre full-scale agroecology farm and sustainable living center at River Bend will deepen educational resources to connect students, as well as local communities, with the natural world. In addition to continuing exploration lessons in Maine ecosystems, students will engage in farming practice to develop a new outlook on the world around them and their potential to impact positive change within the realm of food security and the environment.

“We’re grateful for the philanthropic leadership of the Sam L. Cohen Foundation and their support of our innovative approach to environmental education as we grow and transition our programs to River Bend Farm. By giving students in our most local Biddeford and Saco communities – and all community members – a place to truly relate to nature in unique and experiential ways, our programs enrich science education, promote conservation, and teach sustainability,” said Drew Dumsch, president and CEO of the school, in a press release.
