(Courtesy photo) A marketing flyer has arrived in mailboxes in the city of Saco soliciting potential customers with a bold headline, “TOWN WATER NOTICE.” As a result, the company that provides public water service to the people of Saco has issued a consumer warning.

“This mailer isn’t from Maine Water Company, and it’s not from the city of Saco,” said Pamela Blackman, Maine Water’s customer service manager, in a press release. “The headline is alarming a lot of people, especially the elderly, and there’s absolutely no need for it. We have tried to find contact information to call the organization that has sent out the mailer, without success.”

The flyer is purportedly from “New England Water Analysis.” Blackman said the notice is most likely for a free water test that may lead to a sales pitch for some sort of in-home water treatment system. She said Maine Water Company is getting a number of calls about it, and would like customers to know that the flyer raises unnecessary concerns.

“Maine Water customers can be confident that their drinking water is tested every day and is in full compliance with safe drinking water standards.” Blackman said. “We want our customers to know that their water is safe to drink without further treatment, so there is no need to contact this marketing company.”
