Developer to open brewery in Biddeford

Lucky Dog is a longtime dream-come-true for developer Tim Harrington (co-founder and creative director of Kennebunkport Resort Collection), Kevin Lord (owner of Thomas & Lord), and Matt Dyer (former beverage director of Earth at Hidden Pond).

“We believe in the year-round heart of Kennebunkport. We created Lucky Dog as an extension of the great times we have here – to welcome our visitors KPT-style, and to mingle with our neighbors,” Harrington said in a press release.

In 2014 they began by growing hops and lavender on their farm and orchard in Kennebunkport. A photo shared of Dyer’s bulldog Rigby wearing a hops garland during harvest inspired the brand. Today the crops are flourishing and flavoring Lucky Dog’s inaugural spirits and ales. The hybrid brewery/distillery is off-site in Biddeford, located in the plaza next to Big Lot, 421 Alfred Road.

Distilling is being led by Dyer, with Wade Benker-Ritchey as head brewer. The two are working to create unique flavors and exciting styles to serve in their tasting room, area restaurants and bars and to eventually package.

The official launch of Lucky Dog will be aligned with the opening of its tasting room doors at the former Tia’s Topside at 12 Western Ave. in Kennebunk in late September. Renovations are underway. Lucky Dog will donate a percentage of beverage proceeds to animal shelters in Maine.
