Geraldine Litalien

Geraldine Jeanne (Dubreuil) Litalien, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility. Born in Biddeford on Jan. 21, 1926, she was the daughter of Hervé and Lilly (Houle) Dubreuil and was educated at St. Joseph’s schools.

As a young adult, she worked at the former Murphy’s Music Store and Paquin & Carroll, Inc., where she met Joachim “Joe” Litalien. They were married at St. Joseph’s Church on Aug. 29, 1953. After lovingly raising her five children, she found her musical and spiritual calling by serving as organist and choir director at St. Joseph’s Church. Over the next 30 years she played throughout Good Shepherd Parish, including at St. Mary’s, Most Holy Trinity and St. Brendan’s churches. As choir director, she led both English and French choirs in church celebrations including Midnight Mass and Easter Masses. She continued playing and singing at funerals throughout her retirement.

Geraldine and her husband worked to improve their community by rehabilitating and renting homes. They spent many happy hours on the porch of their cottage at Old Orchard Beach. Her many interests included reading, challenging her children at cribbage and Scrabble, volunteering at Biddeford City Theater, Seal Rock and the CCD library, sewing, quilting, braiding rugs, crocheting and making bandages for charities that served lepers. She enjoyed the warm community of friends at the Stella D’Oro complex. She found great purpose and joy every day of her life. Geraldine will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched by her deep faith, kindness, humility, wisdom, humor, generosity and strength.

She was predeceased by Joachim, her husband of 57 years, her son Guy, granddaughter, Jenna, and sisters Muriel Nolette and Camille Chenard.

A loving and devoted mother, she is survived by son Denis and wife Debbie, daughters, Gisele Litalien and husband Andy Jaffe, Rita Bradbury and husband Brian, Roxanne MacDonald and husband Wayne, daughter-in law Roxanne Litalien, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
