Elks give back

The Biddeford-Saco Elks, a fraternal and benevolent organization committed to serving needs in the community, has been able to make use of grant money awarded by the Community Investment Program of the Elks National Foundation.

Nearly $11,000 has been used to fund projects that focus on three areas: schools, underprivileged and distressed residents and veterans. Saco, Old Orchard Beach and Biddeford schools received $3,750 to assist their arts and libraries funding. Local food pantries received $1,500 in donations and $2,000 of the grant money is going to help homeless veterans in Saco and Biddeford facilities, providing bedding supplies and furnishings for new apartments. In addition, $2,000 has been given to Biddeford area schools to provide 120 stuffed backpacks for students in need.
