The Old Orchard Beach Wastewater Department repainted the sign at the entrance to facilities on Manor Street in Ocean Park. The department plans to begin a $1 million renovation project to its facilities beginning in September to be completed in March. Department Superintendent Chris White said officials expect to install new dewatering equipment to help increase efficiency, as well as new pumps, strainers and odor control measures. White said he is well aware of odor complaints and hopes the new measures will improve conditions, adding that the technology is expensive. He said during winter the wasterwater facility cycles 600,000 gallons of water daily and in the summer that number jumps to 2 million. For more information and photos, see page 10.
